## Finding Home & Honors: Building Community at Sac State Sacramento State’s Black Honors College is rapidly emerging as a model for fostering both academic excellence and a powerful sense of belonging. Recognizing that achievement thrives within supportive communities, the program intentionally pairs rigorous, culturally responsive academics with robust student support systems. This isn't just about high grades; it's about cultivating a space where Black students can thrive holistically. The core philosophy prioritizes community building. Students find connection through mentorship programs, peer-led study groups, and social events designed to celebrate Black culture and shared experiences. The college actively creates opportunities for networking and leadership development, empowering students to become future leaders in their fields and communities. Crucially, the program acknowledges the multifaceted challenges students face. Addressing issues like time poverty – a concern highlighted in our recent article, "Tackling Time Poverty for Student Parents" – is integrated into the support structure. The goal is to equip students with the resources and skills they need to navigate their academic journey successfully while maintaining a healthy balance.
