Purple Shampoo

This might be the wrong subreddit for this question, but I am a new user to purple shampoo/conditioner since I am brunette and using it for highlights/balayage. How often do you guys use it and when you use it do you use your normal shampoo etc in the same wash or only use the purple? I have 2c/3a hair if that makes any difference either. Thanks in advance!
