Portuguese Schengen visa — entering via France/Italy without visiting Portugal. Risk of refusal?

Hi everyone,

I have a valid **Portuguese Schengen visa** expiring **May 2, 2026**. When I applied, I declared **Portugal as my main destination**, but my plans changed and I will **NOT** be visiting Portugal at all.

I'm planning to spend a few days in France and/or Italy instead.

**My questions:**

  1. Can I legally enter the Schengen area via France or Italy with a Portuguese-issued visa, without visiting Portugal?

  2. Is there a real risk of being refused entry at the border?

  3. Is France stricter than other Schengen countries about this?

  4. Would it be safer to add even just 1 night in Lisbon first?

  5. Could skipping Portugal affect my future visa applications?

Any advice or personal experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
