Departure Germany. Vehicle registration and insurance outside Europe. Help me not break the law.
Searched the sub. Couldn’t find people dealing with the same situation. And then spent 6 Hours fighting to not loose my mind. I was on the phone all day and spoke with difference insurance companies. I swear if I hear another computer voice or hold Musik, I’ll just drive off with no insurance and no registration.
Next month I’ll leave for 1-2 years to travel through Asia or Africa. Depending on whatever is happening in Iran. With my own car that’s worth absolutely nothing.
SO to make things easy, I want to keep my German car registration up and running. So I don’t have to register my car in every single country I drive into. I have no problem paying taxes to my home country. But I obviously don’t want to pay car insurance in countries where they don’t even have coverage. I pay insurance on each border anyway. Easy huh? I’ll just put the German insurance on ice and leave everything else as it is. No! Haha. Today I learned as soon as I do that, the insurance companies contact the vehicle registration office and tell them my car isn’t covered anymore. Apparently causing them to deregister it. Why? I don’t know!
I haven’t found any insurance company that’ll cover my piece of shit car outside of Europe that I could chose over my current one.
I can’t be the first human being in Europe that wants to drive around the world. And I don’t think people that have done this, re-register their car in every country all over again.
How is the procedure for this? I’m on the edge of loosing my mind here. How complicated can this be? Worldwide health insurance was a 5 minute online form.
