Iran let 10 oil tankers transit the Strait of Hormuz this week as a ‘present’ to the U.S, per U.S President Donald Trump.

“They said, ‘To show you the fact that we’re real and solid and we’re there, we’re going to let you have eight boats of oil … and they’ll sail up tomorrow,’” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting.

He added, “They then apologised for something they said, and they said, ‘We’re going to send two more boats.’ And it ended up being 10 boats.”

Trump claimed this after he insisted in the meeting that America is engaging in negotiations and substantial talks with Iran, even though the latter has denied this.

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said in the Cabinet meeting that many countries in the region have offered to play a mediating role between Washington and Tehran so that the war may end.

Witkoff said that the U.S. gave a 15-point framework for a peace deal, which was delivered to Iran by Pakistan, which acted as a mediator.

Iran has reportedly rejected the ceasefire offer by the U.S. and instead given its list of conditions which must be fulfilled if the U.S. wants to end a war that it started with Israel.

Tehran wants sovereignty over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital route for global oil shipments, per the condition mentioned in the offer sent to the U.S.

However, the U.S. is critical and most likely would not agree to this demand, per experts.

Trump had said on Monday that the Hormuz would be controlled by him and the Ayatollah together as part of the war resolution.

Trump and his Cabinet officials, including Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, asserted in the meeting that the U.S. has damaged Iran’s military capacities.

However, he agreed to the fact that Iran still has an upper hand when it comes to controlling the Strait of Hormuz, and this remains an unresolved challenge for Washington.
